About carlsonceramics

Ceramics is the art or process of making useful or ornamental objects from clay by shaping and then firing them at high temperatures. The Ceramics major involves the study of clay history and techniques and the implementation of them towards an individual expression as well as contributing to that history language and contemporary art discourse.

Ceramics Fall 2012

This last semester flew by in the Ceramics Studio. Both beginning level classes were full, which meant that the studio was constantly bustling with activity and the kilns almost never stopped running. We are happy to see many of those beginning students continuing into intermediate classes for the Spring of 2013.

Our advanced students worked hard this semester. Some focused on perfecting a specific form while others ventured from functional into sculptural work. While they each worked toward their own goals in the studio, they worked together to accomplish a successful Winter Pottery Sale and Soup & Salad Event. Both are annual events, as well as our Spring Sale which we will start planning at the beginning of the upcoming semester. We would like to thank all of our supporters!

This semester the advanced students attempted to hold a “Clay-Off” as a fun activity for all ceramics students to participate in. Below is a picture of our official roster. While the event was cut short we hope to try again in the Spring.
